OAKLANDS.
Making A House A Home .
At Lighting of London, we understand that lighting plays an important role in shaping how a home looks, feels and functions. For Oaklands, a substantial private residence combining traditional design with contemporary detailing, the lighting scheme was developed to complement the architecture while supporting the practical requirements of modern living.
THE BRIEF .
Oaklands was designed with a strong focus on craftsmanship, architectural detail and carefully considered interiors. The lighting needed to enhance these features throughout the property, creating a consistent experience from space to space while remaining sympathetic to the overall design.
Alongside the visual requirements of the project, it was essential that the lighting systems could be integrated efficiently during construction, requiring close collaboration between all project partners.
Our Approach .
Working closely with the project team and electrical contractors, Lighting of London provided both on-site and off-site support throughout the installation process. This collaborative approach ensured that the lighting scheme was delivered as intended and integrated smoothly into the fabric of the building.
The lighting strategy focused on highlighting architectural features, creating depth within interior spaces and supporting the functionality of each room. A combination of accent, linear and architectural lighting was used to establish a balanced and cohesive scheme throughout the home.
By carefully selecting fixture types and locations, the lighting enhances key details while remaining discreet within the overall design.
The Products .
The Aim.70 was utilised throughout the property as the main source of lighting. The adjustability of the light meant light could be directed towards the more important areas, instead of relying on generic grid formats.
Low-level lighting is an integral part of creating a layered lighting scheme, and this is where the Hide came in. Installed in the stairways the Hide not only enhances aesthetics, but functionality as well.
Another low-level fitting, the Pin has a softer output compared to the Hide. Used in the bathroom settings, the soft pools of light from the Pin creates a more tranquil, spa-like vibe.
With its complete adjustable functionality, the Follow Me.P was used to provide accent lighting to highlight specific features and focal points. The plaster-in aspect allowed it to integrate back seamlessly into the ceiling when not in use.
A discreet uplight, the Profile.40 was used in key architectural features to highlight joinery details, such as the stone fireplace, and the oak doorways.
An integral part of creating a structured lighting scheme, the Seeks were used in all bedrooms, as the bedside reading lights. The adjustable tubular head allows complete user control, ready to provide discreet and personal illumination.
Used for the outdoor steps, the Mark provides a striking ground wash effect, enhancing the aesthetic without overpowering the space, whilst also ensuring functionality when the sun sets.
Used consistently throughout the interior, our Linear.240 provides continuous architectural illumination and enhance key design features, such as joinery detailing.
Our Impact .
A key aspect of our involvement was supporting the wider project team throughout the delivery process. By working closely with the electrical contractors and providing technical guidance during installation, we helped ensure the lighting was integrated efficiently and performed as intended.
The broad product range allowed a consistent design language to be maintained throughout the property, while offering the flexibility needed to address different architectural and functional requirements within the home.
The OUTCOME .
The completed lighting scheme enhances the character of Oaklands while supporting the way the property is used on a daily basis. Architectural features, interior details and key focal points are carefully illuminated, creating a cohesive environment that feels comfortable, functional and well considered.
Oaklands demonstrates the value of combining thoughtful lighting design with technical expertise and close collaboration, resulting in a lighting scheme that complements both the architecture and the lifestyle of its occupants.
